Food Bank Worldwide
The first food bank was established in the United States in 1966. Today, the initiative has gained ground in many countries around the world, from America to Australia, including Western Europe, helping millions of people in need through their operations.
Under the umbrella of the European Federation of Food Banks, 388 food banks operate in 29 countries, distributing 4.1 million meals daily free of charge to more than 44,700 charitable organizations, which together reach approximately 8.1 million people in need.
The Hungarian Food Bank Association became a full member of the European federation in May 2006, after 8 months of provisional membership.
